2021 Ford Edge vs Escape | Size, cargo dimensions, engines and more!
Choosing the right small SUV or crossover can be a challenge. If you’re looking at a small crossover SUV, chances are good that you’re looking at the differences between the Edge and the Escape. They’re both 5 seat SUV’s, have similar engine options and technology.
What are key features of the Edge?
Sync4! There are a few small changes to the packages that are available but the new media screen for the 2021 model year is what stands out. They’ve completely changed the look and the functionality.
One of the biggest benefits of moving to Sync4 is that Android Auto and Apple Car Play are now wireless! That means no more fiddling with wires trying to get connected. This is even better if your car has the wireless charge port as you no longer need any cords to stay connected on the go!
There are a few styling upgrades on the Edge as well, taking some pointers from the 2021 Escape the badging on the liftgate has also received an upgrade.
What are key features of the Escape?
The Escape went though it’s facelift year in 2020. The 2021 marked the introduction of some new options – like having the Escape Hybrid lineup now available in the SE trim level. On top of that, Ford has changed a few packaged options and removed the paddle shifters from the Escape lineup.
Having said that, the Escape has a benefit that the Edge doesn’t. 2nd row seats that can slide! That means you can get a few extra inches are cargo space without needing to fold down the 2nd row!
Media Screens
The all new Sync4 system in the Edge gives you a productivity screen that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play and also has integrated Voice Activated Navigation! The Escape is still on the Sync3 system which gives you wired Android Auto and Apple Car Play.
Engine options
The 2021 Escape has the option for the 1.5L EcoBoost, 2.0L EcoBoost or 2.5L Atkinson Hybrid engine with availability being different across the lineup. The 2021 Edge has the 2.0L EcoBoost standard in the SE/SEL/Titanium trim levels while the Edge ST has a 2.7L EcoBoost! The video below goes over the horsepower/torque spec differences between them
